Parametric Resonance

Computer simulation experiments are especially good tools for helping students understand basic physical principles. In this area, I have developed a computer simulation package called Physics of Oscillations for examining the phenomenon of parametric resonance in a linear system, which arises from a periodic modulation of some parameter in the system. This program simulates the parametric excitation of the rotary oscillations of a mechanical torsion spring pendulum subject to periodic changes of its moment of inertia.
